(02-23-18) - The Flint Wastewater Treatment Plant has ended it's weather-related sewage discharge.

The combination of melting snow and rain overwhelmed the plant's capacity. It's why the plant started releasing a mixture of stormwater and partially treated sewage on February 20. The city says it ended Friday at 7:15 a.m.

Even though the discharge is over, the Genesee County Health Department says people should still avoid contact with the river because of its high flow. In particular, water downstream of the plant, west of Mill Road Bridge at Flushing Road.

The river water will still be monitored for high bacteria levels. For more details, click on 'Related Links' next to this story.
