Back to the Bricks Promo Tour reaches finish line, but summer of fun is not over
ST. JOHNS, Mich. (WJRT) - The 11th Back to the Bricks Promo Tour has ended.
After a year off, the tour came back stronger than ever with more than 300 vehicles registered. The demand was so strong that organizers had to end the sign-up early, because so many wanted to be a part of it.
The tour started Friday morning at the ELGA Credit Union branch in Flint Township and headed to the first stop at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort that evening. The tour spent the weekend in Boyne City with a two-day car show Saturday and Sunday.
The participants then headed to Cadillac on Monday and Muskegon on Tuesday.
Dozens of car enthusiasts rolled into St. Johns on Wednesday morning for the last stop on the tour. They lined up at Sundance Buick/GMC to show off their classics, customs and unique vehicles before wrapping up the tour and heading home.
While some promo tour participants decided to head home a bit early, others stuck around for the last stop. As quickly as it started last Friday, the 500-mile tour of Lower Michigan over the past six days reached the finish line.
Cars from different decades mingled with each other -- just like their owners -- as admirers walked by to check out their rides.
“We’ve met up with a lot of friends from other tours and other car shows. So, we’ve met up with just a whole bunch of people and met a whole bunch of people and it’s been a whole lot of fun,” said Debbie Fuller of St. Charles.
Tom David of Lapeer said people gave the cars on tour a thumbs up, waves and cheers all week.
“It’s been fabulous,” he said. “Me and my wife loved and appreciated it. and I’m sure all the car show people loved the recognition people showed them.”
Even though the promo tour is over, Back to the Bricks is planning a summer full of fun for the remainder of the summer. The first of two road rallies is scheduled for July 24, followed by the tune up week from Aug. 9 to 14.
The main Back to the Bricks car show takes over the bricks of Saginaw Street in downtown Flint on Aug. 16 to 21.
